What is a nosebleed?

Nosebleeds or bleeding from nostrils can initially feel scary but are not that dangerous. The front and back portions of our nose contain delicate blood vessels. Any damage or harm to these blood vessels results in nosebleeds.

Generally, nosebleeds can be cured at home and do not require any serious medical attention. Whenever a nosebleed takes place, it sustains for a minute or two. But if its frequency increases, an adequate medication should be pursued.  Likewise, a nosebleed taking place after an injury can be dangerous and should get medically addressed as soon as possible.

Reasons

A nosebleed can take place due to various reasons out of which, dry air is the most commonly observed. A dry environment causes dryness in tissues inside the nose that are also known as nasal membranes. Further, this dryness becomes a reason for crusting inside the nose leading to itching and irritation. Generally due to this irritation, patient scratches his nose which causes bleeding.

Besides dry air, overconsumption of aspirin tablets is too a reason for nosebleeds. Allergies and respiratory infections when remain untreated cause bleeding from nose. Along with this, nasal injury, blood clotting and sinus are also widely observed reasons for nosebleeds. If continuous bleeding takes place without any injury or nasal damage, it may signify a case of cancer as well.

What to do?

Lean down forward keeping your nostrils closed and breathe through your mouth. Repeat this for 8-10 minutes and monitor your bleeding accordingly. If the bleeding remains, repeat this exercise for another 10 minutes.

If the bleeding does not stop, visit your doctor immediately.

treatment for ear wax

The ear canal produces cerumen, a light brown or yellow-colored fluid also known as ear wax. It is a waxy oil that protects the ear from foreign particles, dust and microbes, protecting ear canal skin against irritation caused by water as well. Normally, the excess wax finds its way out of the ear canal, into ear opening and then gets washed away. Ear wax when produced more than necessary blocks the ear. It is the most common reason for temporary hearing loss but AHRI provides best treatment for ear wax.

Excess ear wax generation does not become cause of hearing loss automatically. When this wax is pushed deeper by cotton swabs, pins or any other equipment, it creates blockage leading to hearing loss.  Continuous usage of earphones is also a major cause of ear wax problems as it prohibits the wax to wash out.

Symptoms of ear wax are quite easily noticeable;

  • Partial hearing loss in one or both ears
  • Buzzing in ear
  • Fullness in ear
  • Ear pain
  • Drainage from ear
  • Fever, coughing and dizziness in severe cases

If you come across any of the above signs, visit your doctor as soon as possible.

AHRI Gwalior provides the best treatment for ear wax issues. Treatments at AHRI Gwalior are safe, economic and patient friendly. The hospital is facilitated enough to test all types of hearing issues in adults as well as in newborns.

tooth decay treatment in gwalior

Children remain at a high risk of tooth decay and other dental problems. Various oral problems can develop in a child as soon as the first tooth comes in. This not only creates problems while eating but also disturbs the speech of the child. AHRI provides tooth decay treatment in gwalior region.

Main reason for tooth decay or other dental problems is bacteria in mouth. These bacteria feed on sugars and produce acids that spoil and decay the tooth enamel. Prevention is always better than cure. So, all we need is just a set of expert tips that can protect our children against dental risks.

This blog discusses a few ways suggested by Dr. Shipra Agrawal and Dr. Rohit Agrawal that are exclusively helpful in preventing oral problems among children of all age groups. Dr. Shipra Agrawal (MDS)is an Endodontist at the Agrawal Hospital and Research Institute. She specializes in the field of Cosmetic dentistry & Smile designing. She is also working as Associate Professor at a dental college and has trained many postgraduate students also.

Dr. Rohit Agrawal (MDS) is a Dental Implantologist & LASER Surgeon currently giving his services at the AHRI for tooth decay treatment in gwalior. With an experience of more than 2000 Successful Dental implants.

For children in age group of 1-3 years :

  • Dental hygiene should be given a firm concern. Their gums need to get wiped with a soft cloth twice a day, before first feed and after the last feed.
  • Brushing should commence just after the first tooth grows. For this purpose, small and gentle brushes should be taken that are soft on baby’s tooth. This brushing is required to be practiced with normal water only and no toothpaste or any other solution should be applied.
  • The kid must undergo a complete dental check-up as soon as he turns one. This check-up is essential to examine whether the gums are free from all infections or not.
  • After a proper growth of milk teeth takes place, regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste (twice a day) should start.
  • Children need to develop a regular habit of mouth-rinsing whenever they eat something. Rinsing removes the food particles that get trapped in teeth and allows production of bacterial acids.

Cochlea

Our hearing or auditory system can be broadly categorized into two parts- peripheral and central. The peripheral hearing includes the outer, middle, and inner ear. The outer ear consists of eardrum, auricle and ear canal. Middle ear contains malleus, incus and stapes. These three small bones are collectively denoted as ossicles. Malleus connects to the eardrum linking to the outer ear and the stapes connects to the inner ear. Inner ear has cochlea that is further connected to the central hearing system by auditory nerve. Cochlea consists of several special fluids which play an important role in hearing mechanism. The central hearing system consists of the auditory nerve and an incredibly complex pathway through the brain stem and onward to the auditory cortex of the brain.

Sound waves or simply the vibrations in our surroundings are collected by the auricle and are further channeled into ear canals. These sound waves vibrate the eardrum. Now, these eardrum vibrations are moved to the ossicles present in middle ear. From here vibrations are transferred to the cochlea in the inner ear.

Cochlea consists of thousands of hair cells that are sensitive to a wide range of such vibrations. High pitched sounds stimulate hair cells in lower portion of cochlea whereas the low pitched vibrations stimulate hair cells in the upper part. After detecting the frequency or pitch of a sound, each hair cell generates nerve impulses that are transferred immediately along the auditory nerve.

Auditory cortex is the hearing center in the brain. Here several such vibrations are converted into meaningful sound. This whole process takes place within a fraction of a second.
