Nosebleeds can be categorized into two types, anterior and posterior. Causes of nosebleed

Treatment of nosebleeds depends upon their type. Anterior nosebleed takes place in the frontal area of nose, usually through nostrils. This is not so serious and can be handled effectively by sitting up and squeezing the softer portion of nose.
Lean down forward keeping your nostrils closed and breathe through your mouth. Repeat this for 8-10 minutes and monitor your bleeding accordingly. If the bleeding remains, repeat this exercise for another 10 minutes.

Posterior nosebleed, being more serious and dangerous than anterior nosebleed involves flowing of blood through the back of nose, down the throat. It should not be treated at home.
