Astelin (Azelastine) provides relief from bothersome nasal symptoms such as congestion, itchy/runny nose, sneezing and postnasal drip due to seasonal allergens or environmental irritants. Azelastine is steroid-free, does not contain pseudoephedrine, and relieves your symptoms by blocking the effects of histamine - the primary cause of allergy symptoms.
Clear your nose - Clear your nostrils by blowing your nose. Look down - Tilt your head down to keep the medicine from going down into your throat. Sniff gently - Spray once per nostril. Sniff gently. Spray once per nostril again.* Do not spray into your eyes.
Side effects of azelastine are generally mild. Most common side effects reported with use of azelastine are bitter taste, headache, nasal inflammation or burning, and drowsiness.
Some medical conditions may interact with azelastine spray. If Azelastine is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Azelastine with the following:
Alcohol Drugs that slow the nervous system, including codeine, phenobarbital, and Restoril Cimetidine (Tagamet) Ketoconazole (Nizoral) Other antihistamines such as Benadryl and Claritin
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
Store at controlled room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C) away from sunlight and moisture. Protect from freezing. Keep the bottle upright with the pump tightly closed.
